gcc-g++-3.4.5 issue

Earnie Boyd
List,

I made a change to the mingw.ini file that I need someone to test.
Please try to download this file with the new mingw.ini file.  I would
test it but I'm blocked by proxy at the moment.

Not sure what you meant.

I downloaded gcc-g++-3.4.5-20060117-3.tar.gz via www.ming.org -> sourceforge
and I can unzip it. It has the date 2008-04-24 what is the same as
that on the sourceforge site.
I dont see any newer files there.

Best wishes
Uwe

I meant using the MinGW-1.5.4.exe installer.

I downloaded the installer from sourceforge.net half an hour ago.
I let it run and it downloaded mingw.ini from 26-04-2008
with gcc-g++-3.4.5-20060117-1.tar.gz
Is what you wanted to know?

Best wishes
Uwe

Does tar -ztf gcc-g++-3.4.5-20060117-1.tar.gz contain a list of files
or a corruption error?

Actually, the mingw.ini should have todays date.

I tried the candidate option of the installer. It is showing now two
mingw.ini files:
the new one points the newer -3 files and the other one mingw.ini.old
contains the older file names.

It seems that all gz download ok beside the g++ one you mentioned above.
This one is only 52KB long and seems to contain html code of the mingw page.

Best wishes
Uwe

I made a different change.  Can you verify what happens?

I downloaded MinGW 5.1.4 again from sourceforge.net and run it in a
separate directory.
I have chosen download only and version candidate.
I checked the mingw.ini file and it pointed to the right files.

The result is the same: the g++ file is a html version of the web page.
The other files seem to be ok.

I dont see a problem with mingw.ini, but have you tried to rename the
file g++ to gpp
in order to avoid the "+" sign?

Best wishes
Uwe

I was attempting to use %2B (the hex equivalent) instead of +.  gcc-g++
is the file name so renaming it to gcc-gpp isn't a logical solution.

The name g++... is consistent with what the upstream GCC project uses;
to name it differently would surely cause confusion, (all the more so
since GPP could be easily be confused with CPP, a mnemonic which the
GCC documentation uses to refer to the C preprocessor).

In any case, SourceForge now reckon to have fixed the underlying cause
of the problem, (and I've just performed a successful download):
https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=200001&aid=2630791&group_id=1

It's always better to tackle the cause of a problem, than to fiddle
about, trying to work around the symptoms, IMO.
